GTA NeXt Network - Playdom Community Forums - New Members Guide! - The BBCode and Post formatting
SECTION 10: BBCODE AND POST FORMATTING

There are many different icons and formatting options that you can use to format your posts on the forum. This section aims to explain how this all works. Also, not only can the forum BBCode be used in forum posts, it can also be used in Visitor Messages, Private Messages and in your signature space. To use any codes on this page, you will need to copy and paste them into Notepad to remove the formatting, and then copy and paste them from notepad into your post (if using the enhanced editor). NOTE: The majority of this section covers formatting with the "WYSIWYG Editor", which is explained in Section 6 of this guide.

- This wraps the selected text in Bold tags.
The code:

[b]Your text here[/b

- This button wraps the text in italics tags. The code (remove the asterisk):

[i]Your text here[/i

- This button wraps the selected text in the underline tags. The code:

[u]Your text here[/u

- This button aligns the selected text to the left of the page, the default setting on the forum.

- This button centers the selected text so that it appears to the center of the page. For example:

center
- This button aligns the selected text to the right of the page. For example:

right
- This button turns the selected text into an ordered list. Putting the cursor at the end of a line and hitting "Enter" will create a new entry into the list (when using the Enhanced Editor.)

  1. one
  2. two
The Code:

[LIST=1][*]one[*]two[/LIST]

From the above, simply copy and paste one of the "[*]" in-between the "[ LIST=1 ]" and the "[ /LIST ]" tags to create a new entry into the list. Another thing worth mentioning is that you can substitute the "1" (in the tag [LIST=1]) for "a" (becoming "[LIST=a]"). This will look something like this:

  1. one
  2. two
The Code for the above:

[LIST=a][*]one[*]two[/LIST]

- This button creates an unordered list, useful for creating a series of dotpoint summaries if required. Hitting enter will create a new entry to the list (when using the enhanced editor.)
  • One:
  • two:
The code:

 [LIST][*]One:[*]two:[/LIST]

From the above; simply copy and paste one of the "[*]" inbetween the "[ LIST ]" and "[ /LIST ]" tags to create a new entry into the list.

- This allows you to insert a hyperlink into your post. Here is an example of the text that I am going to use to create a hyperlink:
This links to the Google homepage.

I want the two words "Google Homepage" to be a hyperlink, for example. To do this, highlight the two words "Google homepage", then click the hyperlink button and then enter the full URL of the link (for example: "http://www.google.com/") and then click "OK". The final hyperlink should look something like this:

This links to the Google homepage.
The code:

[URL="http://www.urlhere.com"]Insert page name here.[/URL

- Simply highlight the selected link and click this button to remove the link from the text.

- This button works similar to the "Insert Link" button, but this particular button allows you to create an email address link.

- This allows you to insert an image into your post using the [img] tags. To insert an image into your post, simply click this button and copy the URL of the image you are wanting to use into the dialogue box, then hit OK. The code:

[img]www.image url.com[/img

- A button that is rarely used on these forums, but this allows you to insert a video into your post. You are able to link from popular video sharing websites such as YouTube, Google and Facebook.

- This wraps the highlighted text in quote tags.

The code:

[QUOTE=enter username here]Your text here[/QUOTE

- This button removes any formatting of the BBCode of any text that is put within the tags. To use, simply select the text you are wanting to wrap in PHP tags, then click this button. This, however doesn't work very effectively when using the Enhanced Editor.

- The HTML code tag allows you to remove formatting of HTML code. Though HTML isn't enabled on this forum (which means that there is very little use for this button), I am putting this in here just for the sake of reference.

- The Code tag does the same as above, but for any other code that isn't described above.

The bar located across the top of the code panel allows you to change many different aspects in relation to the font, its size and more. Using most of the icons in the above image is simply a matter of highlighting the text, and then selecting the appropriate font, text size or text colour.

The "Fonts" drop-down allows you to change the font of your text.

The "Sizes" drop down menu allows you to change the size of your text should you feel that it is required.

The picture of the "A" underlined with a black stripe () allows you to change the colour of the selected text. To do this, simply highlight the text you are wanting to change the colour of, click this button and then select the desired colour. Please consider the forum colour scheme when choosing a different text colour.

The picture of the smiley face () can be used to choose smiley icons to use in your post. Simply click on this button, and from the drop down menu, select the smiley you want to use. You can also add smileys to your post by using the panel on the right-hand side of the text area (in the "Advanced" mode.)

The icon allows you to add an attachment to your post. To add an attachment, click this icon, click "Manage Attachments" then click the "Add Files" button located on the top-right of the new window that should appear.

These two buttons allow you to undo and redo edits made to your posts, respectively. The keyboard shortcut on a Windows PC to undo an edit is to press "ctrl" + "z".
